Recently I participated again in my company's daily 10 minute motivational phone call. The link for that call is below:
"Two Elements of Great Movements"
The basic idea is this: great movements are made up of people who believe. Therefore, in order to initiate a great movement, you have to convince people of the following things:
1. YOU are special, and
2. WE are going somewhere you want to go.
This works for positive movements as well as negative ones. In positive movements (say, LDS church missionary work) the message is this:
1. YOU are a child of God. He loves you, and wants happiness for you on this earth.
2. WE are going to the celestial kingdom, and provide you the one sure path of getting there.
For negative movements people attempt the same thing. For example, the Nazi movement in 1930's Germany:
1. YOU are a member of the chosen race, set aside from the rest of humanity which should serve you in your greatness.
2. WE are going to conquer the world and assume our rightful place at the top of world domination.
It is a powerful formula.
